Book Three in the Hope Island Chronicles does not disappoint. I thought it might be difficult for the author to maintain an exciting storyline that was original and fresh, considering he's actually telling Nathan's story over many books, but he's managed it. With bells on. The return of an unpleasant character from Nathan's past asking for help, is wonderful, and the hook he uses to ensure Nathan departs on a covert mission works extremely well. I was invested in Nathan fully, wanting him to succeed. This time, his enemies are wiser to his abilities, and the tension builds inexorably towards the conflict between them. I didn't think I could be surprised by Nathan's ingenuity, but take my hat off to PJ Strebor's imagination and storytelling. He's setting the bar higher and higher with each book. In Silent Running, he clears the bar with ease, and I'm pretty sure, on this evidence, he's going to continue doing that. Well-deserved five stars.
