Why is India drilling deep into an earthquake hotspot? - BBC News\\

I thought this was interesting - especially the statement that large water reservoirs can increase the earthquake risk, due to subterranean water pressure. I have heard suggestions of a link between mining or fracking and earthquakes, but I hadn't heard this before.

I've heard those suggestions, too. The truth is that just about anywhere fracking is actually done (which isn't in earthquake zones because they tend not to have the deposits in the first place) earthquakes are caused by fracking - but they are just about always Richter 1-2, which is imperceptible to human senses.

Ditto mining. It makes perfect sense that making underground holes is going to cause earth tremors, but the important point is how strong are they?
