This is a sci-fi book, from I believe the 60's or 70s. A lake monster is made during a storm when a barge sinks during a storm, else were on the lake a young girl gets attacked by this monster and dies, which brings us to our hero a bad tempered scientist who is asked for his opinion of the girls remains, investigating leads him to the lake and a high energy reporter who is looking into mysterious deaths around the lake. Even after the scientist catches the monster the city is not safe because of the grand standing efforts of the (Sicilian mob boss) mayor of the Town causes the monster to be freed, and now this highly intelligent monster wants Revenge. Between the monster wanting revenge the general who is ready to Nuke the town and the scientist who's trying to save it who knows what'll happen.
