I read this book around 4 years ago, which was basically a clash of civilization scenario where a fantasy type world (armed with dragons) encountered another civilization which had Industrial Era Technology. Both of these civilizations traveled through (wormholes/portals) and thus never developed space travel. In the start of the book, an expedition group of each side encounters each other and it ends with one of them dead, which leads to a conflict between both sides. Then another halfway through the book there are minor battles where the dragons are decimating the armed forces of the industrial world, however, against Gattling guns they are slowly dying. There is also a scene where a (Sergeant I think?) kills a Griffin with a shotgun. So while the Fantasy world is currently winning, they have lost a lot and it looks like the industrial world will make a comeback. Also, one of the industrial expedition members was captured and being transported back to the fantasy land's capital. I remember reading more about it, and that it was an unfinished and that more books were supposed to come, but that was years ago. Thank you for reading.

that's easy, it's the multiverse series by david weber

david seems to be sick for a few years so there's not many new books

I think it was Linda Webb who was sick. Weber is taking about producing another sometime soon but with a different co-author (which probably means the co-author will be doing all the actual writing).

ETA a quick search shows the book 3 came out last year 'co-authored' with one Joelle Presby, who I've never heard of before. Been too long for me; I doubt I'll be picking it up.

[It's called the Multiverse series on Weber's website but he acknowledges that many people call it the Hell's Gate series].

I'm beginning to lose hope I'm afraid; at least for the 'good' part.
