Episode IX Director Fired

This seems to be becoming a trend...

I'm not worried, but if Disney has to put in a pause then by no means I'm up for it. They say the problem is in the script, not just the director and it makes me to believe that Disney is feeling a pressure to make the finishing episode to shine like a crown jewel to the movie that closes whole thing.

Has it become a poisoned chalice?

Go back two years when Disney took over the franchise and many directors would have killed to be associated with this. Now, I'd see many directors avoiding it like the plague. Under those circumstances, you are unlikely to get the best people any longer. I think that IS worrying for its success.

It has, but fear not I believe there's a plently of young directors who really want to have a big chance. Question is, with Mickey Mouse being a difficult client, are they willing to compromise on details? I wish we could know what they've been arguing about.

The 9th film has always been the big end - the finish of the series. And honestly if you can't end a trilogy let alone the might of starwars on a massive film then its the kind of thing that sinks a franchise. Disney knows that they've got to go out with a bang so that they can keep the wheels spinning and keep making more films and such.

I can very much see it being a hard thing to take on and the kind of thing that makes a director worried that if they muck up it could be career crushing.

I am glad they made this decision now before they started shooting something they knew wasn't going to work. They probably already made this move a while back and we are just now hearing about it. I doubt they would change lanes like this without a plan already in place.

Well according to updated article they have new director ready to take the place. According to the Rian Johnson should continue from the spot where he leaves the Episode 8.

Given I wasn't much of a fan of TFA I'm not terribly thrilled by the Abrams news, to be honest. I'm really hoping that that movie is the only one that was ordained to be a nostalgia-fueled rehash (Member stormtroopers? Oh, I member stormtroopers!), and The Last Jedi and Episode IX can therefore be their own thing - but I guess we'll see which way the wind is blowing on that in a few month's time.

At this stage I'm more interested in seeing the Han Solo film, and more excited by the prospect of the Obi Wan film, and hopeful that after those, we'll get some more detached Star Wars stories.

An Obi Wan film? I didn't know they were going to do one, but it could be good, I think. I vaguely recall some extended universe stories about his younger days that were good, and I know it's not canon any more but that kind of thing might work quite well.

What about a Knights of the Old Republic film? That would blow my tiny mind!

Um ... because Terrio did such a stellar job with that film?
