Sad news. I really liked the books he wrote with Larry Niven, in particular Lucifer's Hammer, Footfall and The Mote in God's Eye stick in my mind even though it's many years since I last read them.

Jerry Pournelle was truly one of the all time great in S.F. The Mote in God's Eye was both original and mind blowing. When he co-wrote with Larry Niven their output had no betters and few peers. RIP indeed!
