I am still confused, can someone please explain what really happened? I really don't get the whole hollen side of the story.

The green plasma is sentient and when bonded with a human, he is called Hullen. That green plasma, a sort of alien parasite, gives them healing powers and they are almost immortal. Khlyen (Dutch and Aneela's father), was a scientist who used the green plasma hundreds of years ago as a super-fertilizer to grow food. We don't have details how the Hullen infiltrated the RAC as level 6 agents (killers), but we know Khlyn was one of them. It looks that the Hullen are everywhere in the galaxy and they communicate through the green plasma. Initially we were told that Aneela was the Hullen's Commander, but we found out later about the Lady. The Lady is still in the green plasma, but she wants to get out and take control of the galaxy with her Black Roots ships, probably in season 4.

Does it makes sense so far ?

This seems like a fair summary:

I get the Hullen was originally used as a fertilizer, but it was also used by those priests. It's the where-it-has-been-hiding-for-six-centuries that is the problem. I just don't get it. Why the mothership and it's humongous escort fleet wasn't detected earlier? Why there is no records of the green stuff or the alien contact? If they were a hivemind, then why they didn't act like it (individuals had their individuality intact even though they were controlled by one entity)?

It's the details where this story starts to break for me. I also don't understand why Lucy for being supersmart AI couldn't see these things sooner.

They look like humans and threfore can easily infiltrate any society. The Hullen made an arrangement with the original Nine (world leaders) to take over the Quad and therefore their existance kept secret.
I don't think the priests used the green plasma, but they know about and died because of it. Alvis found a dead monk in a mine with a secret scroll.
They do act like a hivemind, but apparently they need green plasma to keep contact.
Those parasits are man-eating centipedes, full of green plasma. We saw them in S2, ep. 3 and in the last ep. from S3.
Lucy is indeed smart and funny. :)

So, could they use the DNA weapon from series 1 to wipe the Hullen out?

Why can't they isolate D'avin's immunity, replicate the genes that give him that immunity, and then give gene therapy to everyone to make them all immune?

Also, if all the Hullen didn't originate on Arkyn, and only those within the Arkyn Hive Mind have been poisoned, why aren't they asking the question (early Season 3) of where they did originate? If they want a war, then they need to take it to the point(s) of origin.

Remember D'avin DNA was subject of an experiment in the army ? Khylen tried to find out if D'avin's immunity was inherited from his father and failed.
In my opinion D'avin kept something from the green plasma as Khlyen was able to link him to the Black root fleet and he is still able to communicate through the pool.

Regarding the origin of the Hullen, Khylen told Dutch before he died:"Centuries ago, my people offered the ancestors of the Nine a deal, eventual assimilation or immediate annihilation. Their descendants have had ten generations to suck the wealth out of the Quad and honor the deal. What you're seeing in Old Town right now is the beginning of that handover. A silent invasion has begun."

The first infected were Khlyen, Aneela and his scientific team when they tried to colonise Arkyn. Nevetheless, under Aneela's leadership the Hullen infiltrateed all the squads. as you could see, they are not easy to kill. Khlyen developed a toxin for kiling them, but the trick is that every time they have to kill a Level first and then use his *blood* and the toxin on the tree from every squad.

Okay, I see. I was thinking it was more of a franchising kind of idea, or a pyramid, and you could take out the bottom level for more effect. You are saying it is more like seed dispersal and you have to root out every seedling.

According to Aneela, there are two types of Hullen, apparently, those who rule and those who obey. Is that a different kind of distinction to the strains of Hullen that result from the membership of a Hive Mind? Or, is she simply referring to two strains of Hullen that form two differing Hive Minds - and one is subservient to the other?

They didn't give us more details. We only know Aneela was able to do things no other Hullen could and the Lady was watching her. We didn't see the Lady yet and no other Hullen leaders either. I suspect they will play this card in the next season.
