Killjoys 1.01: Bangarang

Maybe I should have used "renaissance" instead of "revival." Syfy hasn't been completely dead, just in the Dark Ages -- as in my television screen has been dark during most Syfy programming.

Watched (most) of the first episode and then cancelled my DVR instruction to record the series. Very weak dialogue and a ho hum story line. There's too much else out there that's much better.

I guess personal preference. I actually liked this better than Dark Matter. It is a little bit cheesy, but that's part of its style and I think it suits the show. Some parts of it you're supposed to find a bit tongue and cheek.

I liked how it got straight into the world building and showed us more in one episode about the world and characters than Dark Matter has with both its episodes so far. And the fighting scenes were certainly a lot better choreographed than Dark Matter's were.

I think Lucy as an A.I is a lot more tolerable than the Android from Dark Matter as well.

I'll be watching both of them, I think. Now just to wait for Syfy's third entry, The Expanse...

Killjoys joins Dark Matter in my “like” column -- unlike Defiance, which has been in my “dislike” column since nearly the beginning. For Friday nights on Syfy, two out of three ain't bad.

The latest two offerings call to mind that old saying about dancing bears – it's not how well they dance, but that they dance at all. Killjoys and Dark Matter can dance, which is more than I can say for 95.614 percent of Syfy programs.

Maybe nothing presented on Syfy will ever a equal the quality of the re-imagined BSG, but at least they're trying. With slightly lowered expectations, I expect to continue being entertained by both new programs.

I'm on the fence about KILLJOYS. Willing to watch a few more episodes to get a better feel of it before making a decision.

My "guilty pleasure" on SyFy is the now defunct WAREHOUSE 13. Cheesy but good for days when you just want to curl up with a cup of tea in peace and quiet.

Speaking of Warehouse 13, good to see Aaron Ashmore back in a Syfy series. Wonder if any other WH13 cast members will be making guest appearances on Killjoys.

Funniest episode of WH13, by the way, "Savage Seduction" (S6:E4).

I jut saw this and I am with Warren_paul on this “I actually liked this better than Dark Matter.” That doesn’t mean that I love it. But that means that will have more margin.
There will not be a Battlestar Galactica so soon…

I watched the first episode of this and I suppose it was ok. It felt really generic, as if somewhere a computer is making TV sci-fi to an algorithm. I kept expecting the characters to turn a corner and bump into the cast of Firefly. It doesn’t help that the three lead characters – little sarcastic man, big angry man and feisty lady – felt really thin. I might watch a bit more to see if it improves, but really, 6/10. I’m just impressed that someone could take the idea of bounty hunters in space and make it feel dull.

The first episode of each series is not significant. Try a few more. Killjoys is one of the series which gets better with every new season.
