Episode 5 - Excellent as usual!

Love the idea of "Nanobots gone nutters and torturing unfortunate folks over and over again". It adds a nice twist to the run-of-the-mill storyline of a sociopathic soldier."

Eh? I guess horses for courses?
1.05 A Glitch in the System

This series is still very much a horse for my course.

Holy expletive! Nanites have often appeared as creations of uncontrollable evil in science fiction, but this episode employed them in a horrific way I had never seen or contemplated. The concept of nanites repairing damage being done in tissue-damaging "enhanced interrogation" conducted by a runaway computer program looking for information the victims did not have called to mind the punishment of Prometheus. Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place.

Still, the nanites saved the day by enabling Dutch to "fly," unprotected by such niceties as a spacesuit, from the derelict ship back to Lucy. Bit of a stretch, there, I thought.

I like the "crush" Lucy has on John. She wouldn't violate quarantine protocols for Dutch; but when Dutch said John was in trouble, Lucy popped that hatch right open. "No favorites, my ass!"

Obviously the show isn't going to please everybody. You will always find people who love the show alongside people who don't. Personal tastes and all.

I agree that the nanites allowing her to space walk without a suit was a bit of a long stretch, surely even they wouldn't be able to keep a body together in the vacuum of space, but otherwise the episode was entertaining like usual. Although interesting that episode 5 of Killjoys happens to share many similarities to episode 5 of Dark Matter. They both involved seemingly abandoned ships caught up in crazy science experiments with member(s) of the crew being contaminated by said experiments.

I wouldn't go so far as to say "it might be the best [episode] yet" but it was much darker and it had real "peril" for the team - you expect them now to easily outwit the tough guys, but this was a seemingly invincible enemy. They are working as a team now and there was also quite a bit of revealing of those "secrets" they are all keeping, plus, some further idea that the "Company" performs secret experiments. What is "Red 17" anyway? So, a lot of movement in the plot, and much less explaining the background. I believe that the Nanites could have kept Dutch alive in space. D'avin can't remember because he has mental blocks added surgically. What happened to professional ethical boundaries of doctors in the J and the Quad?

I enjoyed this episode a lot. A real danger to the crew, our first exposure to the Red 17 plot line.

It reminded me. A little of The Alistair Reynolds short story Nightingale.

I liked this episode only because we found out more about D'avin past as a soldier. Nevertheless, that glitch in the system was dangerous and disturbing like hell. Not funny those torture sessions.

I'm sorry to dissapoint you, but if you really wanna find out about Red 17, you have to watch Season 2. All I can tell you without spoiling the fun for you, is that you will not regret it. ;)
