I rarely watch television, so why am I starting a thread on a TV show in General Writing Discussion?
I recently discovered an Australian TV series that may be interesting to other writers. Called "You Can't Ask That", it presents panels of people from minority groups with the sort of "politically incorrect" questions that Joe and Jane public ask them. I thought it was a great way to get some idea of what it might be like to walk in someone else's shoes. I googled, and some of the episodes look to be available on YouTube.
The three episodes I watched (Muslims, People in Wheelchairs and Recent War Veterans) were all interesting, but the Recent War Veterans episode was particularly powerful. I'd recommend it to anyone whose protagonist has survived a war.
There are other episodes (Ice users, S&M, for example) that are a bit too far on the side of life I don't particularly want to know about (and, yes, as a writer I should hang my head in shame.)
