In a beautiful crossover of my two favourite things...

The BBC's Paperback Writers series where an author takes the reins of a radio show for an hour, playing their favourite tunes and chatting inbetween, is back*.

Robin Hobb will be live on BBC 6Music this afternoon from 1pm, and then available from the iPlayer for about 30 days.

I've listened to a few of these, and they're usually pretty interesting. The clips I've heard of Robin Hobb sound interesting so I think this will be a good one.

*This might be part of the BBC celebrations (50 years) rather than a full series starting

It is going to be a full series.

I would so love to be invited to do that!
I'd love to be invited to do Desert Island Discs one day. I can't think of any other reason I'd want to be famous! It was exciting enough when my band got to pick 8 songs for a local radio show once (four of our own, four others) so that's probably the closest I'll ever get.

I don't think I'd heard of Paperback Writers until now, so that's another aim. I'm not sure about listening to the Robin Hobb one for fear of spoilers.

It's more about what the author was doing at various points in their life, stuff like what they were doing when they got their first book deal, that kind of thing. You should be fine - plus they played Iron Butterfly!:)

Roddy Doyle was on Sunday's episode, so that should be available now (there was a good mix of music and he really takes his music seriously)

I feel somewhat cheated that she didn't play the full 17-minute version of Inna Garda Devida. It's interesting, and I appreciate that this is fundamentally a music show, but I would have liked a bit more about her writing. But that's probably asking too much. Thanks for linking to this.
