Gemmell Movie?

I think a good Skilgannon will be Vin Diesel. I know you will not think that is right and all but if you have a chance to watch 'Chronicle of Riddick' Diesel has the dark, silence inner demon play in him.. and his built.. and the way he moves when he was killing.. that's how I picture Skilgannon kills.. fast, brutal and goes for the vital spots.

.. and his voice.. he doesn't say much.. kinda like Skil

Yes but is he capable of an english accent? I find it absolutley impossible to imagine any Gemmel Character with an Amrican accent.

I think many people condider only the aesthetics of a character, and disregard real actor's ability to expand into a role... Consider Lord of The Rings: yes many people didn't like the look of the film or the changes in the narrative but in terms of casting it it was spot on (except in my book for Sean Astin who for me almost ruined the trilogy) and who would have picked the cast ten years ago? When news of the film were first floated on the net I heard many people saying that Sean Connery would make a good Gandalf when I can't think of anyone worse. And who would have picked McCellan, not me thats for sure. And yet he was perfect!

Lets think: who has the acting skill to make a role their own, to fill a character's boots almost literally (because that's what actors do!)? Vin Dielsel may look the part for Skilgannon but does he have the talent and range to convince? I doubt it, in fact White Wolf and Swords of Night and Day - a duology starring Vin Diesel would surely break my heart and make me think 'Dear God! How dare they!!" And I'm sure Gemmel himself would turn in his grave at the prospect!

Daniel Day Lewis would do a good Skilgannon I reckon. His roles in Last Of the Mohicans and Gangs of New York were well acted.

I've only read two of them so far, so the're the ones I'm going to suggest.
White Wolf, and The Swords Of Night And Day.

I think waylander would be a good first intro style film, you would'nt need much in the way of an SF budget for effects, and it does a pretty good job of describing the environment/world they live.

Possibly Sean Bean as Waylander? thoughts anyone?

Sean Bean would be perfect as both Waylander and Shannow seeing how similar they are.

An actor who would look and play the role perfectly.

Has anyone considered Anthony Hopkins for Druss?
British, good at accents, enourmous screen presence.
Also his size isn't a problem, look at the suit Vinnie Jones wore in X-Men 3...

Have people seen 300 or Beowulf?

What's to say that a Gemmell movie cannot be computer generated - that way one doesn't have to find an actor that looks like the character, they just have to find someone who can get the voice right.

A that is the same size as brock lesnar should play druss.
Skilgannon should be played by someone like christian bale.

If the make a Druss mocie they should use Jeff Bridges based on his character in Iron Man, He looked big and had a menacing aura about him. Just have a close look

I think only choice for druss can be BRIAN BLESSED !!!

Who wants to live forever!!! Yaaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhhhh!!!! :) Best line ever in Flash Gordon.

I think a trilogy of movies about Druss would be fantastic, from different points in his life. If the first one didn't do well, it could stand alone and if it did really well, the last one could be Legend. I'd love to see that.

It would have to be Drenei, troy, dark renown and the alaxander books would all be instantly compared to similar kinds of movies. People would expect the same kind of pretty boy heroes for troy as the Brad Pitt version. people already have an idea of what vamps are like so dark renown could have vamp lovers having a hissy because they arent "Real vamps" And 300 is enough sweaty greek action for a lifetime!

off the top of my head.

Waylander: Clive Owen (his role in sin city, where he cares but doesnt care!)

Dardalion: Edward Norton (Cos he can act the fek off anything! He's very good at playing the timid that finds inner strength, fighting with his own moral choices)

Druss: Brendan Gleeson (Hamish in braveheart... you have to go scottish when casting the daddy of all warriors!)

Egel (Firest earl of bronze): Russell Crowe (He's got too be dashing and curagious and a leader of men, A man who can inspire and commamnd)

Karnak: Robbie Coltrane (Karnak is known for being loved by crowds, moved by his words an actions as well as being devious in the backgrounds and plotting)

Rek: Matthew McConaughey (Rek is a chanser, he'd nick the sugar out yer tea and come back for the milk later. He's also known for bluffing and putting on courage even when dousing his troos)

Skilgannon: Cristian Bale (a little bit of his unpredictability from american psycho and hes moral duality from equilibrium along with a pinch of his darness from batman)

Witch-Queen: Keira Knightly (cos she is smokin and can play the bitch too)

It would all depend which film they went for. I dont have a Danyal, But I spose Keira could play that since the Witch-queen and Danyal wouldnt be in the same film.

no, no, no... the very discription of skilgannon is he's a pretty boy with attitude! with dashing looks and long hair... sorry but Diesel is about as pretty as my left butt cheek the reason he gets chicks is the bad boy image and skilgannons image is clean cut (except his tattoo's, but there official markings not gang signs) Also Skilgannon is rarely brutal about anything, when he fights its like a dance. Flowing motion of his stretches yoga like work out, means control and precision. Each stroke has purpose and meaning. Also his inner demons should be fought a little more subtly not with grinding teeth and scolding looks. Diesel is a great bad boy jumping out of an exploding building/car/bike/anything but I wouldn't give such a complex role for him to butcher.

I agree, in that the point of Skilgannon is to be a character who is struggling to defeat the inner demon. Half of the point of his personality is that he's trying to make up for the horrors he committed at Peropalos.
Skilgannon is also described in White Wolf as being slim and aesthetically muscular - Vin Diesel would be too bulky, I think. Maybe Jean Claude van Damme if it weren't for the terrible acting, dodgy accent and not being tall enough.
I think that the characters in Gemmell's works are so perfectly developed that each of us create a vastly different image and concept of behaviour to the next reader.

Druss is meant to be huge, all of the writing points at him being over six foot and built like a brick S**t house
Actually, all the books with Druss in refer to him as being average height, but massively built, meaning muscular as opposed to tall. In The First Chronicles, Borcha is described as being a little over six feet tall and being "almost a head taller" than Druss. Indeed, Klay is attributed as being around 6'6" and dwarfing Druss/

I've discussed this many times with DG fans. I always thought Legend would be a good place to start - although being DG's favourite it would be hard on him if things went sour.

Anyway, in a perfect world I'd go for the following castings:

Druss - John Rhys Davies / or a no name:mad:
Rek - Joachim Phoenix (from gladiator)
Bowman - ?
Bricklyn - Alan Rickman (??) maybe not
Caessa - Jessica Alba:eek:
Nogusha - The Rock
Ulric - Ken Watanabe
Calvar Syn -
Dun Elicas - Joel Edgerton (Gawain from King Arthur)
Hogan - Ioan Gruffudd (Lancelot)
Earl Delnar - Pete Posthelwaite
Virae - Katee Sackhoff
Orrin - maybe Sean Austin... not sure:rolleyes:
Joachim - Art Malik
Menahem -
Nosta Khan - ?
Serbitar - Adrian or Neil Rayment (matrix twins)
Vintar - Gabriel Byrne (although he'd need bleach)

I would think Serbitar more Machulay Kulkin, remmeber he's meant to be very weak with little muscle.

Druss: The guy from Hellboy?? But yes, a no name would be good
Virae: I would go for Lee Lee Sobeiski
Earl Dernar: Peter O'Toole, he looks like he as one foot in the grave
Bowman: Christian Slater
Joachim: Ryan Reynalds
Calvar Syn: David Wenham ( he had an eye patch in 300 too!)

I agree with both of the above comments in most parts.

Druss - John Rhys Davies
Rek - Joachim Phoenix
Bowman - Christian Slater
Bricklyn - Alan Rickman
Caessa - Jessica Alba
Nogusha - The Rock
Ulric - Ken Watanabe
Calvar Syn - David Wenham
Dun Elicas - Joel Edgerton
Hogan - Ioan Gruffudd
Earl Delnar - Pete Posthelwaite
Virae - Katee Sackhoff
Orrin - I thought of him like a Sean Bean
Joachim - Art Malik
Menahem - ?
Nosta Khan - ?
Serbitar - I know it may sound abit cheesy but when i read Legend i imagend Orlando Bloom as Serbitar.
Vintar - Gabriel Byrne
