Gemmell Movie?

Druss is meant to be huge, all of the writing points at him being over six foot and built like a brick S**t house

No, the writeing suggests he has massive shoulders and is very muscled but in the first chronicles when he is fighting in the sand pit all the other fighters dwarf him suggesting he is not all that tall

I've often wondered myself about who would play a part from any book: my thoughts for Druss would be John Rhys Davies, at least for the Legend movie, as he is older, a younger Druss i don't know.
Jon Shannow Scott Glenn or Tommy Lee Jones.
Waylander Sean bean or Keifer Sutherland.

i think that if legend were to be made as a film, it could be 2 much like the main battle scene in the 2 towers, only an opinion though. robbie cultraine would be a good 2 play the part of druss, because of his size

Toby Maguire, Arnold Schwartzanager, Colin Farrel... i'd prefer if you had picked ANYONE who could act...these are some of the few people left in film that cant act, good god man have some respect for the rest of the world, gemmell himself and yourself!!! not to mention how many people would hate those mentioned actors for spoiling a possibly great film... Arny's great though =) can't complain bout a good bit of obvious corn... and cheese... and ham... add a mill and you've got a tasty sandwich mmmm sandwich (sorry fist post and replying in shock before noticing i was replying to the LEAST recent)

only people i could see play druss would be a complete unknown. one of those fathers who cut their hand off with a bench saw and duct tape it back on and go for a beer to make it all better. yay or nay?

pray thee tell could anybody out there see Tilda Swinton play serbitar. The, is it male is it female, queen of narnia and gabriel in constantine. He always read as a questionable type, no joke, i think a women like her would play him better then a guy could

as for Brian Blessed playing Druss, come on. He is only a good character in The black adder, as for his role in one of the McGyver movies.... I can't tell. As for the guy who played Hamish - he's too fat even for druss in his old age.

But they should definitly make a film about Waylander, with Hugh Jackman

I think that casting legend would be a very difficult task, but if this book was made into a movie, i dont think i would select any of the holywood A class actors. For a story like this it is more important to select actors that are closer to the actual characters than those who have big names as movie stars.

Want proof? consider Troy and Alexander. These stories are spectacular, but have been destroyed by holywood making movies based on hiring huge stars like brad pitt, and colin farell, and big cgi effects. They dont put enough money, time, effort, and thought into the script, and i would hate to see any of david gemmells novels to go down the same path. i would rather have no movie, than a bad movie.

And personally i can not think of any actor i have ever seen that would be able to play druss convincingly.

If it were my choice in casting Legend, i would be scouring the globe looking for convincing, no-name actors, who can actually act well!!

To be honest with you if a film were to be made its a catch 22 situation. You need a name or two to put bums on seats. You could perhaps do it if you had a director, such as Peter Jackson who's name will sell the film, but at least a couple of known names would have to appear to sell the concept to the studios.

I think that that is usually the case with most films, however for those that are based on popular books, the book itself should sell the film. If u look at lord of the rings, peter jackson was virtually unknown outside new zealand, and he didnt hire huge movie stars, although i admit a few were somewhat famous, i.e. elijah wood had done a few movies, and some people would have known ian mckellen and christoper lee, but i dont think it was the director or the actors which sold this film, it was the fact the book was well known.

The question is, are DG's books well known enough to sell a movie based on 1 of them?

OK, i have revised my thinking on who would play druss. After much consideration, and watching lord of the rings and harry potter, im starting to think john rhys davies would be my first choice for druss. Personally i have always imagined druss to be of medium height, huge accross the shoulders/midsection, with a deep kind of booming voice and a lot of charisma. I dunno bout the rest of you but i think JRD fits the bill pretty good.

Otherwise perhaps um, whatsis name?, the guy that played hagrid in the harry potter films. was it robbie coltraine?

I saw another post on this board that had some great suggestions for other people who should be cast

e.g:
Nogusha - The Rock: i know, hes not the best actor, but nogusha is a pretty minor character, and i think the rock could pull off this role.
Ulric - Ken Watanabe
Orrin - Sean Austin: im not sure about this one, i always imagined orrin being a bit older, and definately fatter, and bald. Maybe if we shaved jack blacks head he might fit the bill?

But they should definitely make a film about Waylander, with Hugh Jackman

Oh yes - That or Dark moon, though I have no clue as to who would play Dace

I guess that for Dace is not really a big problem, 'cos he is not really shown as a person except in dreams (it could be done with good computer animation). As for the eyes that change colour whenever Dace is in control, well they can allways use contact lenses

although I have a perfect picture of Dace in my head. He should look like the mascot Eddie from Iron Maiden (2nd & 3rd cover). But hey, that's just me.

He should look like the mascot Eddie from Iron Maiden

Hmmm, nice! Though Alice maybe just the man Haha! As for the eye's, maybe like they have done in Dune? Nice and spooky.

What about Bruce Campbell as Bowman? He' d be prfect for this role. And Mako (played wizard in both Conans) as Nosta Khan.

Some great choices already choosen are: Druss - Brendan Gleeson; Nogusha - The Rock; Ulric - Ken Watanabe; Virae - Katee Sackhoff; Joachim - Art Malik and Bruce Campbell as Bowman.

I'd add these into the mix:
Calvar Syn - Pete Postlethwaite
Caessa - Rosario Dawson
Earl Delnar - Jeremy Irons

The idea of Ray Winston as Druss is appealing but then again so does Jesse Ventura. We still need a good Rek and Hogun!!

I'd have to agree with dragula_66 that Pete Jackson did it best in LOTR with mostly unknowns. But if that's not the case then the above cast would be my choice.
