Thanks to Brian I received an advance copy of A Time of Dread, the first in a new series Blood and Bone.
Set a century after The Faithful and The Fallen.
The Ben-Elim a race of warrior angels rule the Banished Lands, harsh masters who rule with a rod of iron, they will not tolerate discord amongst the tribes and the their laws are brutality enforced. They are determined to wipe out the Kadoshim their fallen Angel counterparts. They have an army known as White Wings and a demand a tithe of taxes and warriors from the tribes.
The Order of the Bright Star, founded by Corban who's mission is also to fight the Kadoshim .
Both factions have the same goal but there is tension between them and rarely work together.
The Kadoshim are growing in power attacks are more frequent. They have also mated with humans, an abomination forbidden by the Ben-Elim.
The book focuses on four POV.
Bleda, a young clan boy taking from his mother as a ward by the Ben-Elim to ensure his clans good behaviour.
Sig, a giant who is a warrior with the Order of the Bright Star.
Riv, a young white wing trainee who has trouble controlling her temper.
Drem, who's father served with Order of Bright Star but fled the land of the faithful so his son could not be taken as a ward of Ben-Elim.
Anyone who has read the previous series will recognise some familiar faces. I enjoyed the previous series but this one is more polished and flows nicely between the POV's. There is a lot of horror and sadness, I'm looking forward to the next one.
