Random stars systems or different galaxy?

I'm struggling to maintain my original idea for my "project", in a nutshell to describe my problem, I wanted to give to the reader the possibility to wave hello to a real star and think that an alien can wave back hello, that said in a dumb way.
But unfortunately I can't find a good way to achieve this, now I have to change my idea if I want to keep going with my project.

Do you think it would be better to create random stars systems or maybe I should set my stories in a different galaxy?
The problem with the second is that I need delete a part of my magazine where I would have talked about humans in a sarcastic (at least for me) and a bit cynical way. What do you think?

Could you clarify the question? Do you mean the problems with interstellar communication between stars would be immaterial somehow?

Pretty late here too.
I wanted ti create stories in real star systems in our galaxy, like "has been discovered a magnesium deposit in orbit around Proxima centari", unfortunately it's impossible for me to achieve this. So, should I move on creating random star systems with random names, but still in our galaxy or is better if those mind born systems are located in a random galaxy?

If I chose to move into a new Galaxy I have to delete a part from the magazine called "Earth Chronicle".
Hope to have been clear this time, I'm nearly falling asleep.

Most people wouldn't know if a galaxy or star system is made up or not. I don't think you have to worry too much about the names, but why could you still not use an existing one if you wanted?

That's true, I really liked the idea to use real scientifics names for my star systems, even for the one with the most impossible names (most of them have just an achronim and some letters or numbers), but I think I will just invent a bunch of systems and maybe spread out a bit my empires, originally the whole history would have took place just a small area with only 120'000.

Not much of a problem, really, IMHO. Any Sunlike star would be invisible much beyond a hundred light years, or maybe it's behind one of the various dark nebulae. (Trans-Coalsack?)
