Thanks in advance. I read a SF hardback in 1978 that dealt with solar system travel of family units battling corruption, piracy, racism. Human characters only. One character is blown away from the slow moving ion drive craft and is in faint radio contact while dying. The craft, with an inflatable cellulose? bubble for (ethnic Spanish?) occupants is repeatedly attacked. Reads like Piers Anthony. Possibly a series.

Sounds like Anthony's "Bio of a Space Tyrant" series. I think the title of the first might have been Refugee.

Edit: Well, never mind - that wasn't a 1978 hardcover. 1983 paperback. So I guess it'll be interesting to see who Anthony "homaged" since it sounds a lot like Refugee.

I agree with J-Sun, your synopsis sounds just like Refugee.
Are you certain about when you read it?

Thanks Both for your fast replies ! I'll order Refugee and have a read. Yes, 1978 or 1979 was the year; school library. I'll post the results.
