Why?The Last Jedi is easily up there!
Why?The Last Jedi is easily up there!
As a fan of Alien and Aliens, I am very used to disappointing sequels.
Napoleon
An absolute mess. I was so looking forward to it. I loved Scott's The Duelists, and wanted to see what he would do with a bigger budget and story. I do not think a Director's Cut will save this one.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
The poster lied.
Dune (1984) takes the biscuit. Completely missed the depth, mysticism and cultural overtones of the novel. I went with a party of grad students & postdocs - 8 of us - and everyone was poleaxed by how far off the mark it was. And don't get me started on miscasting and costumes. But ShaiHulud was good.
The problem with the 1984 film there as no possible way to do Dune any kind of justice 137 minutes film timeframe .
Agree, that is a big part of the problem. My post gives some info on what I think is still the best version - 5 hours long.
Then you were simply mislead. It certainly wasn't advertised as such.I was led to believe I was in for some serious philosophical SF.
I was in San Diego when they filmed it. Local TV stations were posting what streets on the waterfront would be closed for filming. It was not originally a comedy, it just was so badly written, it could help but turn out that way.Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
The poster lied.
Are you sure is wan't intended as a comedy? Why would someone whose a title like that, otherwise? (Full disclosure: I am a Brit, raised on Monty Python and later Douglas Adams.)[Re Killer Tomatoes] It was not originally a comedy, it just was so badly written, it could help but turn out that way.
Candy - my dad used to rave about this film.
There was some complete rubbish made in the late 60s under the pretense of psychedelia. The presence of a former Beatle is usually a bad sign.
The Matrix had the reputation of being "deep", and wasn't especially. It wasn't bad, but Blade was much more fun.
It bombed at that the box office for a very good reason , It was boring and, how could they really top the first film? They couldn't .And Blade Runner 2069 was just overlong. This will be heresy to many people, I'm sure, but I reckon Villeneuve and Nolan are overrated. They make a certain kind of long, sprawling, grandiose film that many blokes absolutely love. I started watching Inception and it was like a clever film by numbers. I'd like to see either of them do a 90 minute comedy.
