Saving the Cat has been recommended, but the price is beyond my means. (Some Brian guy keeps recommending it.) Since I am dirt poor at the moment, can anyone recommend free online references for character arcs and how they match up to the plot for the various characters? (In my novel: MC, sidekick, MacGuffin, and villian.
Thank you.

It's under £10 here in the UK, including shipping. Kindle version is a little more expensive. Is there a big difference over there in the US?

No, but an old debt has caught up with my wife. Our household income is down one third and my account is overdrawn. As much as Brian recommends the book, I would rather hold off till my income exceeds my rent, food, and gas expenses. That said, info on character arcs could prove useful right now.

Just google. There are loads of planes online which synopsis it - blogs etc. Also google ‘novel structure’ and see where that takes you. I researched for a course by doing that and the resources are great.

Search for "beat sheet". I've not read the book, but I get the impression from 10 minutes on Google when Brian first recommended it that you may not have to, and much of the crunch is in the public domain now.

Here's another free resource, from Jim Butcher's old blog. This was the info that got me up and writing when I first started out and helped me finish my first book. Plus, it's entertaining. :D I recommend starting with the last entry and working your way through. He touches on story skeletons, arcs, characters, etc.

Jim's Livejournal.
