Old Tech thread

With a bit of image manipulation, I am fairly sure the last word is ...TOVE
and by looking at its base. I think the full word is STOVE.

Old technology showing its age:

Looking at the height of the balcony rails, you'd have to be careful stepping back to look at the higher books!

The future of French High-Speed trains, 1960's...

It didn't bode well for the success of this "high-speed" train that it was being tested against a combine harvester (one running backwards)....

It looks like a very early attempt at "Greenwashing". 'The train glides effortlessly and pollution-free above the undisturbed countryside below'.

Except that it appears to be a jet-powered train, and the HS2 construction works cut huge swaths through the countryside, far wider than the dual tracks that will never now be built, plus all that concrete in the viaducts. It is the same after mining spoil or landfill sites are covered over in topsoil. They must have green grass and a couple of sheep on them for the photograph, even if that means they are brought in on a trailer.

Have you noticed that artist impressions of new retail and housing developments are always completely litter free, full of attractive plants and with young women pushing kids in pushchairs around while chatting to each other? They never seem to show the impression of a wet January evening when it's completely deserted, all the plants have died off off, half the trees are snapped off halfway, and the flowerbeds are full of old McDonald's boxes, Costa cups and Greggs wrappers.

I was one of those guys in my youth, but I don't remember any special name for us.
Gas Jokeys

A filling station attendant or gas station attendant (also known as a gas jockey in the US and Canada) is a worker at a full-service filling station who performs services other than accepting payment. Tasks usually include pumping fuel, cleaning windshields, and checking vehicle oil levels. Prior to the introduction of self-starting vehicle engines, attendants would also start vehicle engines by manually turning the crankshaft with a hand crank.

Americans probably corrupted the Canadians.

Horrible people those Americans.
