I've read last year in the autumn a short story on either analogsf.com or asimovs.com and I cant seem to find it anymore.
The main character was a mother worried about her teenage boy who didn't changed in a Marvel Hero. The plot was that around the age 16 or 17, every child will develop a super power or loose any hope of becoming a super hero, as the documented cases of adults gaining super powers were almost zero. In the story the mom developed super powers when her son try to kill himself as an ultimate act to trigger his power.
Does anyone remember that story?
