Part of the New Zealand festival in Wellington is a "Writers and Readers" convention thingie.

I've got the pamplet with me and I think you can find it online at that site too.
There are some sci-fi related clubs and sessions going on. I saw Charlie Jane Anders, Corey Doctorow, and Ian Tregills on the session list as well.
Tickets are $19 Kiwi unless otherwise stated along with a pass.
So if you're in Wellington, check it out. It might be worth your time.
