Season 2 of ST Discovery will introduce Section 31.

Star Trek: Discovery just gave us a massive hint about Season 2 and the trajectory of the Mirror Universe's former Emperor Georgiou thanks to a "secret scene" cut from the Season 1 finale that was shown during the show's WonderCon panel on Saturday.

The cut scene sees Mirror Georgiou running a club on Kronos when she's approached by a mystery man who she mistakes for a member of Starfleet. He tells her that he's not, and that his organization is "far more resourceful," and that he believes Georgiou would be "a valuable asset" to them. He offers her the chance to "exert some influence over the fate of this galaxy," rather than slumming it on Kronos, and leaves her with a mysterious black box. When Georgiou opens it, it contains a black version of the Starfleet insignia badge, leaving her with one passing remark: "Welcome to Section 31."

Since they already have a timeline planned out for season 2, it seems good for the long running success of this show!

That was one hell of a deleted scene. They should slapped for taking that out. I assumed (and I'm sure many others) that the black badges we saw at the being of the season were section 31. Then they never said anything about them. When we first met Lorca before the mirror thing started to surface I had giving thought to the rumor that he was section 31. I was happy with the mirror story but I was also sad I never got my section 31 story. Now I'll have both.

I'm interested in how S31 found out about her. Maybe they are the masterminds behind the cover-up.

They have people at all levels throughout Starfleet. The dude said he wasn't Federation but he is Starfleet or was, sort of, that's where they were created.

Can't believe they removed that scene because it would have vastly improved what was generally an uneven series finale. That said if the rumours of a massive change in plans for season two, down to the mixed response to the first are true it does make sense not to tie the writers down with loose plot elements.

Section 31, they are really not nice people . Why not a Trek series centered around them ? That could be a very entertaining series. :)

Hopefully, and it seems to be true, next season will revolve around section 31. Unless they cut that clip because the changed their mind. That would kind of suck.

Let's hope they don't take after "Enterprise" and "Into Darkness" and make section 31 a bunch of gullible morons.
