Short story about a man watching a deer from his hospital bed

Trying to find title and author. I don't remember much other than I believe it was in an anthology from the late 1970s. Many thanks.

Anything else? It vaguely rings a bell (Orson Scott Card, maybe?) but I think more might be needed. What was the character doing in the bed? The deer doing? Anything?

I wish I could remember more. The man was on his deathbed, and could see out the window across a field to a treeline where the deer would appear. It was as if the deer was knew the man was dying.
