Hi, thanks for your time. This was a science fiction novel and I only remember bits and pieces of it.
It involved a small group of humans on a Mission returning to Earth from a colony on Titan where most of humanity has been living for thousands of years. They return to Earth to find out of it's habitable again, only to find that all the creatures have an eerie intelligence. They somehow discover that when Earth was originally abandoned, some humans chose to stay behind, but because the Earth's surface was too toxic for them to survive, they created these underwater domed colonies. When the Mission arrives, these underwater civilisations have been gone for centuries, but their last act was to sort of insert their intelligence into all the species on the planet so that in some form humanity can live on.
It could be possible that I dreamed the entire thing, but I would really love to read this books again. Thank you!
