I'm not thinking of special-effects wallows about apocalyptic storms like The Day After Tomorrow, etc. I want "atmosphere," not gosh-wow-seen-it-before-but-still-stare-at-it stuff.
What are some good movies or classic TV shows with well-done storms or otherwise interesting weather?
I'm fond of Key Largo, Take Shelter (apocalyptic I suppose, but not a special effects wallow), various rainy-night-street noirs, etc. I like the way the Ida Lupino movie On Dangerous Ground goes from rain to snow to clear and cold skies.
I suppose movies about forest fires etc. could qualify. At least, there's a black and white Russian movie that was good on this, Letter Never Sent.
The storm on the frozen lake in Kurosawa's Dersu Uzala is great.
The Twilight Zone teleplay "Midnight Sun" does a great job of suggesting a brutal heat wave, though, yes, it's apoclayptic, but again the emphasis isn't on CGI.
