I read this around 2000, but it was an old book, a find in my dad's collection of sci fi... I am sorry for not remembering the book type, all I remember is that it was about this guy, and he got to this planet. I believe there was an explosion, and the last thing he could see was this massive pile of stones coming to him, or maybe a big massive rock. When he woke up, he was inside the rock, who was alive, and it had a greenish colour.later in the book, the stone is the main character's "bodyguard"
Also, I hope I am not mixing stories, but in the book there was this plant that people were chewing, and after chewing it enough, the plant actually made them burry their head in the ground, and it grew as a tree. That is all I remember, I'm sorry there's no more details, but it was a very good sci fi story that I'd love to read again.
