Children of Blood and Bone

I am looking for a book that will please myself and my teenage daughter. Is it a good choice? What tense and POV is it? I am old school and prefer past tense. If it is present first-person, is it worth my while?

This is an excellent read! It is in present tense and in first person (it switches between a handful of narrating characters at the chapter breaks). It's well-written though, and it's well worth the read.
