(Found) Help required, what the hell is this movie?

Set in Victorian London, about a sailor who brings a chimp/ape/monkey back from his travels. The chimp/ape/monkey then murders women with a razor while dressed as a sailor (white and blue hooped top).

This film is NOT Shaqma or Monkey Shine. Please help!
 
I don't know the movie, but a Victorian-era sailor returning to a European capital (Paris not London) with a primate which kills people with a razor is straight out of The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Poe -- perhaps if you have a look at the work it's inspired it might pinpoint the movie you saw The Murders in the Rue Morgue - Wikipedia
 
When I initially read this thread I thought it could be Murders at the Rue Morgue but couldn't be sure.
 
My other half who saw the film insists that the primate was dressed as a sailor. We can't seem to find any stills of the 1986 TV movie but she seems certain that is the version she saw...

Thank you all for your help, it's been driving her mad!
 
This isn't a monkey but it's monkey like and from a TV movie in the mid 70s. Trilogy of Terror. At the time it was scary for a TV movie.

They did sequel to Trilogy of Terror some years ago and a sequel to the story about the killer Doll. :)

This is definitely Murders in the Rue Morgue. I've seen the version you are talking about, and the creature looked like some mish-mash of an orangutan and a generic ape.
 
My esteemed other half agrees. She says it looked a little like the 'beast' in Chimera.
