I don't remember the name or the author of this book, but I do remember that, the are a group of people (in their late teens and early twenties I think) who live in a compound surrounded by flood lights to keep the zombies/vampires out and that they have a van that's outfitted with lots of lights to.

I think it was set in the USA, I read it as a ebook years ago. It is aimed at the ya group and it was a new novel I think fro the 2000 up

Are some of the people trapped within the compound superheroes, by any chance? If so, Ex-Heroes, by Peter Clines, matches parts of your description. It was published in 2011, and is the first book in a series.

It's not really YA, but it's not particularly fancy fiction, either. Just a thought! I'm sure others will be along soon with more ideas. Best of luck finding the book, CC

Hi I gave Ex-heros a read, not the book I was looking for but I enjoyed it non the less thank you

Was it The Young World by Chris Weitz? The apocalypse happened because of a disease that only affected people when they hit a certain age so the survivors are all 16 or younger.

Stumbled on Arclight by Josin McQuein looking through the library, and thought of this thread, gets you the lighted compound surrounded by photophobic monsters but I don't know about the teens & the van.

I've got Arclight and it's sequel as ebooks in my TBR stack.
Gimme a day or so and I can skim through them to see if the other details match :)

No van in the Arclight duology, also there's no mention of floodlights.
The only similarity is they live in a compound to keep creatures out. :(

I looked again but changed my search to 'light' instead of floodlight and got several hits so maybe..

However there is no van/truck/wagon/jeep/lorry in either book

Feed by Mira Grant had zombies, fences and a van. The main characters were teens or young adults. I don't recall if there were floodlights.

Or could it be The Passage by Justin Cronin? There were vampires and a walled compound with lights in that one. There were some young characters, but I think there were also adults in the compound. I don't remember if there was a van, but I think they went on a vehicle journey at one point.

Possibly The Devil you know by R A Hakok; book 2 of the Children of the Mountain trilogy.

In book 1 a bunch of teens escaped a post holocaust repressive society and travelled to an abandoned bunker many miles away.
They get settled in but the wasteland outside is full of light sensitive 'furies' who are somewhat similar to the creatures in the book 'I am Legend'.
The teens get old generators running and lots of lights working.

That's how book one (Among the Wolves ) finished and I haven't read book two or three - it's just a guess :)
