Story; Set in Greece, there is a statue of a person under the water. might be on an island with goats and a boy. Possibly a doctor who returns to London to work at some point, set in the 20th century. It was an old book as I remember it in the 1980's . thanks any idea's

Hi,

Any more details? Plot maybe? All that springs to mind is the aphrodite inheritence where Greek statues were sort of relevant. Not sure if it was ever a book.

Cheers, Greg.

Was it by Daphne du Maurier? I remember a story about a man staying in Greece that was a bit like that except for the underwater statue.

In "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" there's an island with a golden statue of a man in a pool of water, (Goldwater/Deathwater Island) and of course a boy or two.

It's late, so I'm loopy, and this won't help the OP at all, but it just makes me very happy to be a member of a site where someone can ask the question "Was there a robot squid in the story?", and it's a reasonable thing to be enquiring about. Well done, dannymcg! :)

I hope we can find your story, Carol! CC

It was a very faint memory of a story I read where they were doing an Atlantis hunt. They set off by putting the robot squid through it's test runs in a sunken temple beside a Greek island.

IIRC there was mounting evidence of hostile Atlanteans so the squid was to infiltrate. (Dammit! This will be a book search in it's own right if I don't remember It :))
