Third installment in my series on medieval history: Il Duomo
Read about how Filippo Brunelleschi did what no one else in fifty years and across all of Europe could do: put a dome over the cathedral in Florence. Lots of pretty pictures.

Lucky. When I was there they were still working on it and we couldn't go in. I wonder if the gauntlet of vendors must still be run in order to get to the area. Don't neglect the cathedral of Pisa itself!

Thanks. It's pretty tough to botch the duomo. We'll be returning to Florence--and to the cathedral itself--in a later essay. The one on the Pazzi conspiracy.

Yep, that's the one. It was always one of my favorite lectures to give.
