(Found) Who is this actress?

OK fellow Chroners, this is going to be a tough one...

My wife has a colleague who is the spitting image of an actress whose name I can't remember. Every time I meet her (the colleague, not the actress...) I think you look just like whatshername. It's been driving me crazy!

Unfortunately, I also can't remember any films she's been in.

I did say it was going to a tough one.

All I can say is that she's fairly petite with black hair. Must be over 40 now. British (maybe Irish or Scottish). Tends to play characters that are very "proper/demure/strict/straight/repressed" (for want of better words) in tv dramas and films in the Ken Loach vein. I think she may have a Gaelic sounding name.

What's worse is that I know she's a very fine actress and the films I've seen her in were very good so I should remember - but then I'm useless at remembering names anyway.

Not much to go on I know, but my Google Fu has been weak in this one so I thought I'd try here.

No, sorry. Two reasons; one is that my wife (also me) doesn't use social media much, and the second is that her colleague definitely doesn't use it - her character is very similar to the characters this actress plays (which makes the similarity all the more spooky).

Having inflicted more than my fair share of this kind of thing on members here, I feel it's time to give something back.

Can you describe her hairstyle? (Does she tend to keep the same one?) Her face? You mention Ken Loach, but are there any other associations that come to mind, even if you're not sure they're right? Why do you say "proper" etc? What do you picture her doing?

It didn't help as such but....

I just found her!

I used that search facility to look through 1960 - 1969 with "British" (actually she's Scottish) and found Shirley Henderson who I now realise has played a far greater variety of roles that I described.

The resemblance is uncanny. Although my wife will probably say she's looks nothing like her.

Knew I could rely on Chrons.

Ah yes. She's one of those actresses who seems to crop up in all manner of tv and film but never as a lead so never becomes a household name.

I realised my search link was incorrect. It should have been all actresses born before 1978.
