That was in one of Douglas Adams’ later Hitch Hiker books. I think the guy decided the world was mad and needed putting into an Asylum after having a packet of peanuts that contained the warning Caution contains Peanuts.

My mistake it was the instructions on a packet of tooth picks, and the book was So long and thanks for all the fish.
