Nanowrimo 2018

I'm with Jo on this.

I think I might use it next year to kickstart my next novel but for the moment I’m not needing the team spirit motivation for my wip.

Jo, I’m surprised (not that you’re not doing it) but that you seem a bit down on it (could be my imagination tho). I thought it’d be the kind of thing you’d be into because of your coaching etc. I’ve heard Nano gives a lot of motivation and support to strugglers.

I’m not sure it’s for me but I do think it’s a great thing - gives so many writers impetus and measurable progress, but more important (perhaps?) a sense of community, perhaps?

It’s our Gay Pride...or....or...something :D

One year I’ll participate I think. Thing is I’m such an organic (and glacially slow) writer, I think it might be too challenging. But one year ...

I can't ding Nano too much. When I got serious about writing, Camp Nano came along. I took it all terribly seriously, banged out 50k in a story that still sits in a virtual desk drawer. But after 30 days of making myself sit in the damn chair and write, I developed good habits. So, thx4that.

Since then, however, I've not really done it. I've complained before about the speciousness of word counts, and anyway every time November rolls around I'm smack in the middle of write/edit. Doesn't match up well.

This November, however, I've a slightly different angle. There's a local Nano group. They have write-ins. (loud groan from Jo, off stage). I'm taking this as an opportunity to meet some of our local writers f2f. They don't need to know I'm not really doing word counts. I figure making connections and cheering on is worth a couple of evenings. Maybe I'll even write a bit.

Saw someone had supposedly written 900,000 words in 30 days.

Seriously?

Well, I suppose they didn't necessarily need to be good words! :p

Somebody I see on the NaNo forum always pass 50k on day 1. She says she has a high typing speed, knows what she wants to say, doesn't need much sleep, and has loads of free time in November.

Wish I could, but I've got a ton of editing to do this month, and hopefully also the next round of NYC Flash Fiction, if all goes well.

I shall try to find time to cheer from the sidelines.

We should find out about NYC flash fiction next week! If I make it to the next round, I'll just add those words to my NANO total. :)

Oh! You're quite right. I had this in my head for two weeks from now, not next week. Yay! (I hope.)

And of course those words count for NaNo. All the ones you use, and the ones you discard as well. :)

Can't - because I have a ton of other writing and editing to do for an upcoming campaign by my anti-violence against women nonprofit for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.

Won't - because I write in fits and starts, my sprawling cast of characters are a unruly lot, and I really only have Saturdays to write every week given my insane work schedule made even more insane by that Orange Monster in the White House.
