Franciscan Monk Time Traveler

Sorry, here's more - a time traveler living as a monk in a California mission in the 18th or 19 century with native Americans, which in the end he saves by transporting them... to the future, or planet, I can't recall.
Nice interplay between the monks "converting" the Natives and the traveler who appreciates their culture.
