Who are these "Master Vampires" the Master of?

There are A LOT of Urban Fantasy and Supernatural Romance books that deal with the ancient, powerful, rich Master Vampires who dominate the lesser vampires with their will. I've never seen a book that focuses on what life is like for whoever those vampires are dominating. I've seen a few books about loner vampires or vampires who successfully evade their role in the vampire hierarchy, but never a protagonist who has ever spent time at the bottom rung. This is odd...fantasy has more then a few books from the point of view of orcs. There is also a wole genre about subordinate werwolfs. (Mostly gay romances, for some weird reason.) Never vampire mooks as protagonists, though.

Can anyone think of any books that focus on what life is like for whoever that Master Vampire is the Master of?

@EdLincoln Ed, Welcome to the Chrons.

Did you read Fevre Dream by George Martin? Just before the American Civil War, a vampire and his followers are overcome by another and they are forced to serve him. After the war, a friend attempts to rescue them. The story has a great feel to the late 19th century Mississippi River, but does not detail the daily toil on the "bottom rung." Martin shows how the servants live, but it is not the focus of the story.
