I just like a little tip for one of my characters in my story that has horror, steampunk, sci-fi and fantasy elements. It's a female with psychic powers. My choices are to make her a little creepy girl that has a sidekick brute that does all the physical fighting for her while she uses her telekinesis powers from far away. Another idea is for her to be a feudal Japanese ghost teen that uses telekinesis and has a floating katana or naginata weapon that she can also use with her psychic powers. Or a little feudal Japanese ghost girl that just uses telekinesis and has a small little dagger knife she uses when she's close to her victim. Which option is the best?

Well, option one is relatively standard, so it may not be the best way to go... Personally, I like #3. It seems like a more unique way of approaching it, although #2 isn't bad either...

OK cool. I think I'll try working on option 3. Do you know what age Japanese women first got married during the feudal Edo period? I tried researching and I can't find what age they first started marriage.

The little bit I have gotten is that it was typically around 14-16, but I haven't seen first party attestation of that yet... that said, this is pretty much the typical age of marriage for a woman at that time, so I wouldn't doubt it.

So by the time she was 21 or 22 she was considered very old?

Maybe the Henein period would be a safer bet since I don't think marriage was as big a deal then in fact I think that's when women were allowed to engage in combat and start young so by 18, 19 or 20 she'd be an experienced swordswomen. I don't think I'd be comfortable writing an underaged girl character in a violent story.
