I bought Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2018 after falling in love with N.K. Jemisin's work (as well as twitter) this year. She's one of my current favorites and I want to start reading more short fiction to improve my own writing.
I've jumped around a lot but so far Carnival Nine is one of my favorite heartbreakers. I love this story so much. The author Carolyn M. Yoachim builds an amazing world from a metaphor that grows gracefully and organically. It had me in tears.
What's your favorite from this collection and why?
