Hey, I keep remembering this sci-fi book, which I'm quite sure was written in the 1980s, 1970s, the golden age stuff.

There was a plot point where human beings were generally very long-lived or immortal. After celebrating their every 80th(or some big number) birthday, the person would have to break all their existing social ties and move to a completely different planet/place so as to prevent stagnation in the human population.

I keep remembering that plot point but I cannot remember the book. Hoping someone can help me out!

"Glory Road," by Robert Heinlein. A minor plot point, but citizens on the ruling planet could take 'long-life' treatments, but if they did they had to emigrate to another planet to keep the planet from being overrun. Got any dragons you want killed??

Thanks @PaulMmn ! I'm not sure if that was the book with the plot point, though I did I read a lot of heinlein in the past. I remember it set on planets/colonies, but they would have these big going away celebrations, then the person had to slip away. Quite bittersweet.
