(I know this doesn't relate to a book, but it is made of paper!)

The thread on which early magazines people own reminded me of something that's been bugging me, on and off, for decades.

My older brother had some sci-fi magazines that I believe were American. In one, which probably dated mid-sixties to early seventies, was a comic strip that scared the living crap out of me. It was an "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" type thing, in which the hero goes to various people for help (including a cop) only for them to reveal that they have these big, black bug eyes -- and possibly other horrible features too, but it was the eyes that got me.

That's about all I can remember. I'm hoping it made as much of an impression on someone here as it did on me, though that was probably because of my age (about 7-8, I would think). Unfortunately it didn't make a huge impression on my brother, who doesn't recall anything about it.

I don't know if the magazine was all comic strips, but I think perhaps not. The name Analog, when I came across it just now, rang a bell, but of course I've heard of it elsewhere. (Did Analog run any graphic stories?)

AFAIK, Analog magazine never ran graphic stories. They did, however, have illustrations for most stories-- perhaps one of those illustrated the event you remember.

They're still in business...

This sounds like something that might have run in "Heavy Metal", a scifi and fantasy comics magazine. It was for an adult audience but teens got a hold of them too.
