The Expanse - The Books vs the TV Show *Spoilers*

in the books Bobbie wasn't a part of the Martian team....

They seem to be tryng to find a consistent role for Bobbie that was not there yet in the books. I don't really mind. As I was reading, I kept hoping she'd appear more regularly in the middle books.

I don't mind, either. She's one of my favorite characters. If I remember correctly, the Martian team was even more aggressive in the book, but the way it was portrayed in the show, Bobbie had a sort of nullifying effect. It's been a bit since I've read Abaddon's Gate, but I thought more than one Martian died? Not sure, though.

Anyway, I agree.

Speaking of Bobbie, I thought her battle against the protomolecule creature on Io was a bit of a disappointment in the show. In the book, she didn't need rescued. She kicked that thing's ass as a sort of personal method of therapy for the loss of her team on Ganymede.

The Martian team was overly aggressive. Could have used some advice from Miller.

If memory serves, the protomolecule space station and slow zone don't so much judge intent as behavior. In other words, they are more reactive than proactive. So, anyone could come in, but if they behave badly, action is taken. At least, that's the state they are in when Holden finds them. It's strongly implied in the books that that was not always the case. In fact, I think it's more than implied, but I don't remember for certain.

I wonder how long the show is intended to go on for? The second season takes us about halfway through the second book.

Not being a reader I think season 3 finished the first 3 novels, I am not sure how much of 4th novel Cibola Burn will be covered by season 4.
I guess if Bezos stays a fan of it we will see all 9 novels , number 8 is about to come out.
I am curious to see how Amazon advertises it , the show had had poor visibility on SyFy , even with high critical ratings. My sense is that it now has more buzz than it used to. Gad if Man in a High Castle can get 4 seasons we may see at least 3+5 seasons , in total, of The Expanse on Amazon , maybe more.
