"It's getting quite crowded out here," Bobby.
Oh man, the tension in this episode was so amped from the very beginning. We haven't had this level detail from the command deck since the BSG ended. The Martian Captain just give me chills as she's a proper lady in the right place. I would follow her into a war if she was my Commanding Officer. And I don't even know her history. But she right up there on the level of coolness in the middle of a very stressful situation with Admiral Adama.
I don't know if the Expanse producers wanted that sort of detail, when they made this episode but it is strongly coming through on the small screen. I cannot say that I've seen this sort of thing on the movies as nearly all of the space pr0n stuff are based on a level of fantasy. Star Wars is notorious for not being able to bring this level detail out with their mega-budgets. Disney should take notes from this production, if they want to propel the next trilogy to a new level of coolness.
Then again maybe it's just me who find females as better leaders. Avasarala is a good example. She doesn't take any sh*t from anyone as the truth is more important then the objective. Yeah, there is always an agenda and a play in the shadows, because that is the norm if you want to play in the business of politics. Men, I cannot say there has been anyone as I would see as better. Especially in the Expanse.
In that universe it's better to be independent and follow the herd, if you are not up for being a lone wolf. The UN Admiral didn't even put a fight when he was kicked off from his Command Deck. He played good dog and stick with the order than trying to kick up a mutiny inside the Jupiter Fleet's capital ship. Be a good dog and you'll get a treat.
The problem for him is that there was no evidence. Nothing for him to support evoke the articles and use the rulebook to place himself back in the game. Being outranked is a problematic position and it's the same place Admiral Adama was in when he wanted to charge into the battle instead of protecting a civilian fleet.
I don't think he would have acted any differently even if he'd been in possession of Mao's shoes, when he talked to the protomolecule boy. The way they speak back before they are turned to beast sounds like a computer code or the input you'll receive in the consoles instead of the Graphical User Interface. But, what especially interesting from the protomolecule boy's point-of-view is that he sees the bioelectical system. He sees the synapses firing in one's brain and the impulses driving up and down through the nerve channels. We humans see so little.
"Taking apart" and "the parts" are saying to my Engineer's brain that the protomolecule is actually a biomechanical device designed to use anything, even organic matter to build something absolutely massive. You can see it in the way they built their things all over the Eros and Venus crater that the protomolecule is like a miniature package of ST's most infamous villains, the Borg. There is no resistance, you will be assimilated.
Admiral Southern was too bull of a man to move on his feet when he needed to. I don't know why Lord didn't bless him with better instincts, because if you look for example Fred Johnson all the other brass UN employed acted instinctively rather then waiting for the evidence to appear. But, that is the problem we men often face, because we are too stubborn to act when you need to. We need instructions, while the women have been acting on them all their lives.
Maybe at the end of the day the best person is one, who is smart and can act on their instincts, while you measure the evidence against the wisdom you've accumulated over the years. There is no right or wrong. The actions you commit has to be the best given the situation. The history will judge if you were right or terribly wrong.
I think people should really watch this series because it's comparable with the drama to the Game of Thrones. In places it's even better and more suitable for watching then seeing the great dragons. In the space, the monsters come backed up with hyper advanced genetics. They don't need the machines to survive the most hostile places known to man.
Out there we are at the bottom of the food chain. In a strange way it's weird to think that out there, in the space, the nukes are your best bet against many things.
