‘The Expanse’ To End On Syfy With Season 3, Will Be Shopped Elsewhere By Alcon

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

Can't believe SyFy are pulling this sh*t again, they don't seem to be interested in promoting what their goddamn name is all about! Still, it's not the end, hopefully Amazon or Netflix will pick up this gem that SyFy have discarded so unfairly!

Edit: You can request this show through Netflix by going here:

"We can try to bring this to Netflix's attention by filling out this form on their website: https://help.netflix.com/en/titlerequest
You only have to input the shows title and confirm that you are not a robot, so it literally takes no more than 5 seconds of your time!"

Yeah, this show deserves better than the sh!tty service that SyFy have offered both them and us as viewers. At least if Netflix or Amazon pick it up i might actually get to watch it within the same year as those in the US and Canada!

Well now I don't feel so bad for deciding to go ahead and read the books "between seasons". I just finished volume 7. SyFy might have had trouble keeping up.

SyFy might have had trouble keeping up.

Indeed. But, the Expanse is losing money for them. The people don't talk about it like they do about the GoT. They don't go to their channel to actually watch it because SyFy's dodgy. And then the great audience loves to follow what a few reviewers say about it in the public. The Expanse loses so much with them producing it and Netflix then scooping up rest of the audience.

This article makes it look like the series has an uphill battle to find a new home.

It looks like The Expanse might become a victim of the messy, compromised distribution strategies that embattled cable TV networks have been forced to execute by a shifting TV industry landscape. We're hoping it will beat the odds and continue on, as the series has only made a small dent in the excellent and deep source material.

What about a film series?

Canceled.

Shows like The Expanse, Dark Matter, and Defiance are just to Sci-Fi for the SyFy network. They need to make room for more wrestling and makeup shows.

What about a film series?

If they'll make them in style of B5 movies and actually expand beyond the books, it might serve them a great value. But, I'm afraid they'd have to find a way to continue the series, because that's what the majority of the audience really wants. Maybe the next book would be best if it were split in two movies and then they have another series run. Thing that I think also riles against the financiers is that the Expanse is really anti-authoritian. Dark Matter had the same tone (boobs) so maybe that's also part of the reason why these never get a long run.

The another problem is that while the Expanse is in the production it's a threat to the ST and it's audience as it's far better and far more interesting the exploring time before Kirk got the captain's share. As often the financiers are the same, they might want to see ST getting funds that should have been shelled into the Expanse. We never know what is the case, because nobody in the genre press really investigates these matters.

Had to pop in here after I saw someone post in The Crossing thread that The Expanse has been axed.

To say I'm gobsmacked would be an understatement.

I'm not sure if I'll miss the quality SF storyline or Shoreh Agadashloo the most.

This is a great show what they hell is going on with the SYFY Channel ?!

I watched LIS and although I enjoyed it, The Expanse is far more accomplished and mature. I really hope someone gets it. I've never recovered from the axing of Farscape, Revolution or Caprica <sniff>

At least Farscape got some level of closure with The Peace Keeper War miniseries.

Caprica I wasn't so broken up about . I would have preferred a Blood and Steel series dealing with the first Cylon War .

No doubt. The Expanse was a serious bit of hard Sci-fi. I don't know if there's anything else on to match it. Somehow Killjoys got renewed for 2 seasons while Dark Matter got canceled but Killjoys is a bit tongue in cheek. It can be a little to fluffy some times. For me anyway (I'll still watch it).

Dark Matter was one their better tv series which they should let run for two more seasons. Sadly we are never going to get any potential Darl Mate Killjoys Crossover .

Im really not happy with the Syfy Channel and its decisions .

Then there was Stargate Universe . I thought that was a best Stargate series thye ever did. After two seasons what do they do? They end it on acliffhanger .

That's true and it was great. It was a shame that it had to be rushed out so quick, though. I was satisfied with the tie-up of all the ends.

Yeah, I'm surprised Blood and Chrome didn't do a bit better. It was in development hell; first a series, then a theatre movie, then finally a TV special. I think we'd been oversaturated with BSG at that point. We'd had the series, the failure of Caprica, The Plan, Razor and of course Blood and Chrome. I think people fancied a break. I think Disney better be careful with the Marvel and SW franchises ...

I don't think any of their consumers are ;) Every time they change their spelling, their output becomes worse. What made me laugh in Z-Nation the other night was the throwaway line "At least it's not a shark' when a tornado threw a cow or something at the protagonists! How depressing that something so banal and absurd has worked its way into pop culture references.

I really enjoyed the more serious tone of Stargate Universe. What I had trouble with was the endless dreariness. I'm only so much of a masochist. I like a few episodes where everything works out mixed in with all the soul crushing darkness.

I would say there always a chance Netflix will grab it but with them in the Lost in Space business, I just don't know.

While I warched all of Lost In Space on Netflix and am a Parker Posey fan, I could do without any more of it. Some pretty sappy aspects there. The same could not be said about The Expanse at any level. Trading the former for the latter would be fine with me, he said wishfully.
