The Expanse - 3.07: Delta-V

3.07 Delta-V
All right! It's Miller time!

Hey, slow down!

I love the way they are setting things up on the Behemoth, In fact all of the factions and the way their ships are portrayed. Mars with it's sleek, clean ships, Earth with it's slightly older but more functional vessels, and now the Belt with its floating anarchist collective! OK, maybe not completely anarchic but even so, the fact that someone has put OPA grafitti on one of the walls, even though its their ship! Gonna be an interesting ride on that vessel.

Not sure how fans will react to the sudden jump in time though. I know that's how it goes in the books, but I was seriously expecting them to keep the SG in place, particularly after his revelation to Anna last week, so it was a bit jarring to see him suddenly gone. Maybe they'll explain it more in a later episode.

But man the special effects on the pilot hitting the ring was awesome, and seeing Miller again brought a tear to my eye!

That was a real freakout. I was expecting the ring to act as a Stargate-like wormhole and take the pilot to wherever the protomolecule calls home.
Let this also serve as a stern reminder of how important it is to properly wear your seatbelt. The things a guy will do for love.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure a seatbelt would have helped in that situation, in fact I think he was wearing one as the whole body didn't just go flying forward!

Yeah, it looked like bits and pieces stayed behind in the pilot seat. To rephrase an old saying, it wasn't speed that killed him, it was the sudden stop. :D

Exactly, it's not the fall that kills you, but the ground!

Spectacular crystals.

Apologies REBerg. I just had to do my thing, because I've doing it for three seasons already.

Maybe it was a good thing that the formed UN secretary saw the wisdom on stepping down and leaving the whole theathre to Avasarala. But, the thing is and she has said it, she likes to work at the background, not at the front of 16 billion people that occupies the Expanse universe. In many ways she is like GRRM's Little Finger, but unlike her evil counterpart on SA Corey's mentor's product, she isn't ever scheming.

I loved her reading the statement condamning Erringwrigth to rot in the deepest dungeon instead of being sent at front of the firing squad as the quick death wouldn't have been a punishment at all for the man, who actively sought out to extinguish the flame that keep humanity lit. When we ever get out there, maybe we should take her words to our heart. Instead of war, we need to go out there and retain the peace we have built over the last few decades. Although maybe we should also carry a really big stick as well just in case we really encounter the Great Old Ones.

Like REBerg and GNRevolution I didn't expect that they would have jumped straight into the Ring territory, because they left out a few crucial details like for example the solution for Rosinante's crew as they got rich at the aftermath of Mai's rescue.

The way they described the Ring in the books is what you'll see in the screen, but then it got really weird with the Slow Zone. The thing that stopped the Racer after he got a gravity based speed boost assist from the might guardian of our solar system.

Just look at that and think that Voyager-1 and 2 just got a little nudge from the Jupiter. It's crazy to think all those turns and the end speed, because with the fusion driver, you can easily reach 10 percent of the light speed. With the gravity assist far more faster. Maybe you should be even thinking about Han Solo infamous 14 parsec run through the Kessel's nebula, because the racing in the Expanse could as well be that. We humans are crazy with the speed records as we hold those who achieve them in so high pedestal. The Formula 1 drivers are essentially the modern day deities as they are worshipped like ones. So it's easy to accept that the Race Driver was going to be celebrated like a speed god if he'd returned back on Ceres.

I like the fact that they have really advanced OPA from being a small time player to actually have real navy, including some people who doesn't look like they had climbed out from dusty asteroid mine to fight the wars that almost exclusively were fought by the two big, Earth and Mars. And the Behemoth is right flagship for them as it was not built to fight wars, but to explore the universe, maybe even colonise some distant Exoplanet far from the cradle of humanity.

If you think about the protomolecule and the appearance of the ring, what the alien thing did was actually taking that cradle concept and twisted like we have never seen. Protomolecule isn't Cameron's Alien, it's far more advanced. I, for one, cannot remember if the old SF grandmasters took the concept this far ever. If the Ring is not a stargate then what ... it is?

Welcome to the Slow Zone. Things will take a different turn from here on in. In addition to Miller who will be like Harvey the invisible rabbit, we also now get Melba who is a dfficult character to come to grips with. I won't add any more on her to avoid a spoiler within a spoiler.

An additional note: Was it just me or were others perplexed by the sudden arrival of Ashord (David Strathairn)? I don't remember his name even being mentioned during the episode.

It's ok, I've read the books so I know what's going on (well mostly, apart from the stuff they changed)

I think they mentioned his name when he first arrived, but not after that...

Has Melba been in the show previously? Her opinion on Holden indicated something personal. Her superhuman strength seems to have been drug-derived rather than via a Hulk-like transformation. I'm wondering how she will explain what happened to her supervisor.

She's a totally new member to the cast. The book 3 has longer introduction and also explanations for why she's so hostile towards Holden and his crew. Like I said before I haven't read the third instalment, because the Slow Zone or the Blue Zone made my head in.

Anna Hopkins as the journalist reminds me of why Defiance became less of a favorite for me during its short lifespan.

I'll bite my tongue for now on the "personal" issue. Suffice to say that she has not been a featured character up to now.

just got done with Ep07 and, yeah, that racer pilot....

i found the jump in time a bit jarring - almost felt like i missed an ep. and the explanations/exposition grated a little bit. although most of it worked. except for Amos' bit. he should stick to hitting and shooting things, not talking.hoping this was a set up for some good action in Ep08.

oh yeah and hooray for proto-Miller making a return!

and a massive thmubs up for Amazon taking this on.
