Francis Spufford pens unauthorised Narnia novel
The Stone Table hailed as a ‘seamless recreation’ of CS Lewis’s style, but this addition to the acclaimed series of children’s books may never be published

I haven't read any of Spufford's books through, but have looked over several of them and been favorably impressed. My guess is that, if anyone could write a good new Narnian book, it might be he, but that's not to say that I think this should be published now -- or that it shouldn't. As distinct from what should be, I'll grant that I'd like to read it.
My solution would be for the Lewis estate to permit it, given its extraordinary qualities (apparently), with the book being labeled clearly (?!) as an authorized unauthorized book, and for Spufford and the Lewis Estate to agree on a good cause(s) to which the royalties would be donated. Which could come to a lot. My guess, then, is that the money might come down to being the real hitch here, because would all concerned be willing to give up the dough? Iw ouldn't be surprised if the author were, but I have my doubts about the Estate.
