Hi guys,
i've been searching for a short story (i think) for a very long time now and i just can't find it. So i'm really hoping, that, you guys could help.

Here's what i def. remember about the plot: It's set in the future on another planet; The main characters are adults, but one adult has a child, that is somewhat disabled. It can't speak a regular language, it just talks "gibberish" like "gluaej uuarhn blleael bleaaeebb barra"; the strange words, that the child speaks are written down several times as direct speach during the plot. No other person can understand the child. The narrator of the story changes several times and parts of the story are described through the eyes of the child. There is some sort of danger coming from other people and the child seems to be able to perceive it.

And here's what i think that i remember about the plot, but it's a little blurry: I think, that the plot is set on mars; I think, that the child was somewhat gifted, but nobody seemed to realize it. I don't think, that the child had any "supernatural" powers, but it was able to perceive it's surrounding in a way, that the others could not.

Style of the narration / plot: rather realistic, no "supernatural" or fantasy parts; somewhat tensed atmosphere, but unagitated and without big drama and not too epic. The direct speach of the child seemed very distinctive to me (something like "grrua blle blaezgfd bloogfdf frreas").

How i came across: i got it from a second hand book shop around 2007 in australia.

book: i think it was a paperback with several science fiction short stories; the book and the stories seemed to be rather classic and not new.

author: i always thought, that it was from Asimov, because i remember me reading "nightfall" at the same time period, but i never was able to find it again. so it might be from someone else.

So, that's all the (potentially) helpfull info that i can think of. If you have any questions, let me know!

Would appreciate your help a lot!!

All the best

Happy to help! Dick is my favorite author. I'm actually excited that I got it right from your description. It was a total guess on my part. It just sounded right.
