I agree, Guy Gavriel Kay is an amazing author, and I'm kind of leaning towards agreeing with him. There can't be any set rules because no one rule works for everybody.

That doesn't mean all writing advice is bad, otherwise the critiques forum wouldn't exist.


His talking about the modern technologies of the day were entertaining. The room "had a shower!" The typewriter had an "umlaut key!" -- I had to google what umlaut meant...
