The big plot item was a random person is pulled into ship and must pass tests ultimately fighting with current winner in ship. It was a human selected and had to fight off various alien challengers.

Was he pulled off his farm by a spaceship with an arm placed in a room and then challenged to gain control of the spaceship and there was an robot too,
