(spoiler talk) Nigel Sheldon question (void trilogy)

So I'm reading the Evolutionary Void. I read the commonwealth saga and also the first two void books. I remember that Nigel Sheldon ended up going to a different galaxy using his Ark ships. However I also remember Nigel Sheldon being inside AnA but not speaking during that tribunal scene where the accelerators were supposed to be all put to suspension for treason. Am I remembering it wrong? Was it just his personality / clone or someone just using his likeness as an avatar?

I'm pretty certain that Nigel isn't in the Void trilogy. The Sheldon at the ANA judicial hearing in the third book is Nelson Sheldon.
