WEll i immensely enjoy reading the Obsidian triology by Mercedes Lackey. THe elven world, and the intracicies of magic that is displayed in the books are amazing and captures me.

I have read both the Outstretched shadow, and TO light a candle. Both were excellent and as I do not know when the third book is coming out, i would like to know if there are any other books out there that are similar to these two books. Just as a side note. I dislike books that contain Star Wars-like stories. I don't like spaceships and all that. I like elves, goblins, etc. etc.

I also reading about Vlad Taltos in the Jhereg series. Steven Brust imbues humor and intrigue into this series and keeps it ultimately interesting. It has been over a year since his last release of Issola and I am getting extremely impatient. During that span i have read all of his other series, including the viscount series and them.

If anyone knows any books that are similar to brust's books, please tell me. I would like to read other books that have Vlad's humor and intrigue.

Also, if anyone knows when Lackey decides to release Book 3 of the obsidian trilogy please say it. Also, if anyone know when Brust will release the next Vlad book, please say so also.

THank you, and i know this is a long post. However, it's my first post here, so i hope you can forgive me. I'm just sick of looking at online reviews of books and deciding whether or not they're the type of book i would like.

Thanks again.

Have you read any other of Lackey's works? I'd suggest the Valdemar series if not.

As for something close to Brust, I haven't found it yet. But, you could try Simon Hawke's Wizard series, Simon Green's Hawk series, Salvatore's Drizzt series and perhaps Juliet McKenna, Robin Hobb, J. V. Jones...take a gander through some of the posts in the Books and Literature thread. There are many recommendations and descriptions that may help.

Good luck!

I read a lot of the other Lackey books. And i also read Salvatore's drizzt series, btw wen is next one coming out?

Simon Green and Simon Hawke are two different people correct??

You konw of any fantasy books with elves and stuff that contribute a little bit of humor????

Yes, Hawke and Green are two different authors though I tend to get them mixed up quite often.

The newest Drizzt book is coming soon, I know my library already has it on order.

As far as elves and humor, there are few that I can think of that mix the two specifically. But if it is humor you are looking for there is a very nice thread here http://www.chronicles-network.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5689 that lists some favorite fantasy/scifi books that include humor.

Now you've just reminded me of another trilogy that I enjoyed - don't ask me why as there are no elves and it is relatively dark without any humor - but it is a good series by Lawrence Watt-Evans called The Obsidian Chronicles and it begins with Dragon Weather. This author does have some books that include humor but I don't recall any elves but most have dragons and magic and whatnot.

Now I'm reminded of another series and the title and author completely escape me right now - it's about a castle that sucks in a woman from our modern day world and it is very odd...doors lead to different places each time you go through them and there are several residents like the woman who just happened to have been taken into the castle...well, it is late (3am) and I must go to bed. Most likely the title will come to me while I sleep. 'Night all!

***EDIT***I just remembered one of the series I was looking for (not the one above) that I was reminded of when posting this - The Dragon Knight by Gordon R. Dickson.

The closest I could come to The Obsidian Trilogy would be J.V. Jones' The Book of Words (beginning with The Baker's Boy) same type of young protagonist with similar difficulties.

thank you for your input. I'm going to Barnes and Nobles toorrow to either buy/read the books u told me of.

You were very helpful. Thanks again.
